A former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Stephen Opuni has sued popular Kumawood actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil win for GH₵10million on defamation claim.

Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) and Daniel Nii Odoi Tutuwani, a producer at Adom TV have also been hit with a defamation suit by Dr. Opuni.

The suit, filed at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, 24 April 2018, has Lil Win as the third defendant while Multimedia and Tutuwani are the first and second defendants respectively

According to the suit, on or about the 24th day of March 2018, Lil win the host of a parody news program on Adom TV dubbed “I can’t think far news”  made derogatory comments against his person (Dr Opuni).

Dr. Opuni is also seeking a retraction and apology on six consecutive times on Ghana Television, TV3, Joy TV, Adom TV, a written publication on the website of Adom TV and Joy TV, together with four publications on the front and back pages of the Daily Graphic newspaper for four consecutive weeks. Dr. Opuni is currently in court facing 27 charges over allegations that he caused financial loss to the state during his time as COCOBOD boss.

The embattled former Chief Executive of COCOBOD contends that the defendants acted cruelly in publishing and broadcasting the said defamatory words and video which were designed to cause hatred, ridicule and public revolt, and has also tainted his hard earned reputation in Ghana and abroad.

He added that the defendants knew and ought to have known that their publication would cause maximum damage, especially as they state as a fact that the boxes of this stolen money were found in Dr. Opuni’s house and further that he used part of this stolen millions of United States Dollars to build a luxurious mansion to house his mother.

Dr. Opuni together with a businessman, Seidu Agongo, owner of Zeera Group of companies are facing 27 charges of willfully causing financial loss to the state to the tune of GH¢217million in three separate contracts for the supply of fertilizers from Germany.

They’ve been granted self-recognizance bail in the sum of GHc300, 000 each.
