According to him, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has failed to deliver on his election campaign promise to lift the Asawase constituency and it is about time he says goodbye to the people ahead of the general elections in 2020.
Mr Boasiako was reacting to mockery comments by Hon. Muntaka during the NDC ‘Unity Walk’ rally about a supposed statement he[Wontumi] made during the 2016 electioneering atmosphere to commit suicide if he[Wontumi] fails to capture Asawase, Drobonso and Ejura seats from the NDC.
Speaking on SilverFM’s ‘Omanbapa’ morning show with Nana Kwabena Ampratwum, Chairman Wontumi made an emphatic statement that governing New Patriotic Party won all the seats in the party’s stronghold, Ashanti Region during the 2016 general elections.
“We have always won all seats in the Ashanti Region but election fraud had always caused us to lose some seats in the region”
“In 2012 and 2016 elections at the Asawase constituency, the NDC rigged the elections at the last minute in about seven polling stations since they were in government”
He also recounted an alleged scheme to manipulate the 2016 election in the region where a team of police personnel and some executives of the NPP led by himself [Wontumi] intercepted thumb-printed ballots which were found in a hotel room in Kumasi. Wontumi accused the NDC of masterminding the act.
“The NPP will wrestle the Asawase seat in 2020 so Muntaka should say goodbye to the people because he has failed them” he stressed.
The Chairman of the governing NPP in the Ashanti Region also made a firm statement that the party is not perturbed by the crowd and sympathizers of the NDC’s ‘Unity Walk’ on Sunday.
“If the NDC got about 400,000 votes in Ashanti Region during the 2016 elections and the General Secretary of the NDC touts about 20000 joined the walk then it means most of their sympathizers did not attend”
He said the NPP is patiently waiting for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to elect ex-president John Mahama as flagbearer for the next elections as it will be a ‘cool chop’ for the NPP.
