“Technical Education- The way forward to reduce unemployment”- Akufo- Addo

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the strategy of his government is to enlarge technical and vocational opportunities at both secondary and tertiary levels, and, thereby, strengthen the linkages between education and industries, as well as empower young people to deploy their skills, to employ themselves and others.

According to the President, Government is paying critical attention to technical and vocational training in the country, explaining that the transformation of the structure of the Ghanaian economy, and the reduction of unemployment, hinge on technical and vocational education and training.

“What I envisage in the technical and vocational education sector would involve a truly radical change in attitude on the part of all of us,” he said.

The president said, if proper measures are put in place and much needed attention are given, it would help reduce unemployment, adding that the much skills needed for the modern economy could be developed.

He said that when young people are encouraged to enter the technical and vocational training they can deploy their skills to employ themselves and others, thereby strengthening the economy.

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Tuesday, 1st May during the launch of “The Nation Builders’ Corps” held at the Great hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

“We shall be able to transform Ghana’s economy and reduce unemployment when we pay attention to technical and vocational training because that is where the skills needed for the modern day economy can be developed,” Nana Akufo- Addo reiterated.
