According to the Principal Administrator, this move will help sustain more lives and make the role of the Ambulance Service effective.
The National Ambulance Service is mandated to transport ailments emergencies to health facilities across the country.
He said transporting patients from various vicinities to health centers is free of charge but at times becomes difficult to convey vulnerable patients back to their places because of fuel.
He disclosed that, only fuel for emergency cases are been covered or provided by the Central government, all other runs must are catered for by the patients themselves which the service sees it as disturbing.
Officer Duut therefore appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency include the National Ambulance Service on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to make the service more efficient and affordable to all degrees of illness not only emergencies.
During an engagement on SilverFM's Omanbapa Show, the Administrator for the Regional Ambulance Service, Officer Sommik Duut Miilon explained to Nana Ampratwum that, "Covering all the cost of the ambulance service will help it's improvement".
