Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has lashed out at the opposition, National Democratic Congress(NDC) for claiming that free Senior High School (SHS) programme was started during the party's tenure in office.

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama stressed at a campaign tour at Tuobong, a community in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region, that the flagship policy of free SHS was launched by the NDC in 2015.

“We started the programme and the NPP came and continued it. Unfortunately, the implementation has been very poor, and so it ended us in double track,” Mr Mahama stressed.

Dr Bawumia speaking at forum on Thursday, November 26, 2020,indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the initiator of the Free SHS policy and the administration has demonstrated leadership in the implementation of the policy.

He said that the NDC rather opposed the Free SHS before its implementation.

He said the NPP government under the Akufo-Addo administration even came under several criticisms after rolling out the Free SHS policy.

''Ladies and gentlemen I want to you remember as you go into this election that the NDC opposed and bastardized the Free SHS policy proposed by the Akufo Addo administration''

''They said it was a hoax...they said it was a 419 promise they said if they had GHC 2billion they will not spend it on Free SHS...they said free SHS will collapse the education system ..... they went on demonstrations against Free SHS they even went to the Supreme Court to stop the implementation of Free SHS ....they ran over 40 adverts against Free SHS''

''Today, the NDC is saying they started free SHS! “Awurade Nyankopon!” he lamented.
