Management of the porcupine warriors terminated the contract of Norwegian Coach after the team’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
A letter signed by Chief Executive Officer, George Amoako attributed the Norwegian’s dismissal to his inability to meet “performance targets” set for him.
He spent only four months at the Kumasi-based club.
A statement on the official twitter handle of the club confirmed the two parties have parted ways after a crunch meeting with the coach on Wednesday.
"Management has terminated the contract with Norwegian Coach, Kjetil Zachariassen after a meeting at the club secretariat in Kumasi today," a statement of the club's Twitter handle read.
Zacchariassen crossed carpet from AshGold to their rivals Asante Kotoko after inspiring the Miners to win the Normalisation Committee Special Competition Tier II- defeated the Porcupine Warriors enroute to winning the title.
The expatriate coach has failed to turn things around for Asante Kotoko- they threw away a 2-0 first-leg victory against Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the CAF Champions League as they suffered a 3-0 defeat in the second, before over the weekend they failed to hold on to a 1-0 win in the CAF Confederation Cup against San Pedro of Ivory Coast when they lost 2-0 in the reverse fixture.
The elimination San Pedro was the straw that has broken the camel’s back. It is too much for Asante Kotoko to take, having parted ways with CK Akonnor despite winning them the Normalisation Committee Tier 1 Cup and reaching the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
It is understood Asante Kotoko was willing pay Zacchariassen in advance as severance package to fulfil a contractual obligation but the Norwegian trainer demanded four months salary.
''Zack wanted up to $12k compensation but Kotoko was firm and proposed $5k''
''Zack said no and latter demanded $10k pay off''
''Kotoko were unwilling, so Zack & his agent left the meeting to be continued'' the official mouthpiece of the club , Kotoko NEWS tweeted.
But speaking on SilverSports with King Eben, the PRO of Kotoko, Kennedy Boakye Ansah said';
''The club had wanted to mutually and peacefully part ways with the coach but he was proving stubborn so we had to evoke a clause in our contract with the trainer to arrive at this decision''
''So we have terminated his appointment....he is no more the coach of Kotoko and he is only due for his October salary''
The Norwegian was appointed in July this year and barely four months into the job he has been shown the exit out of the club.
This is the ninth coach to be sacked under the reign three-year tenure of Dr. Kwame Kyei.
