Asante Kotoko have announced that former gaffer Johnson Smith re-joins the team as an assistant coach.

The former Karela United trainer penned a two-year deal with the Porcupines on Friday to become an assistant coach of the club following the abrogation of the contract of Akakpo Patron.

Coach Smith is joining the porcupine warriors for a third stint.

He played a key role in the team's success in the 2000's. Smith was with the Kumasi-based club during the lit and dim days of Coach Bashiru Hayford,Maurice Cooreman,Herbert Addo and Paa Kwesi Fabin.

Johnson Smith was part of the club’s technical team during the days of Bashiru Hayford in 2007 and acted as a caretaker Coach in 2008 after the exit of the then Head Coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin.

His rich experience in the local terrain has aided him in his duties with lower-tier clubs like Eleven Wise, Berekum Arsenals and Bibiani Gold Stars before an illustrious stint at Karela United finishing second in the Special Competition organized by the Normalisation Committee.

However, he will be back in the dugout as the Porcupine Warriors continue their quest for continental glory in the CAF Confederation Cup.
