He said, MTN through its various innovations has been able to create employment opportunities for many Ghanaians to lessen the unemployment rate in the Country.
“Today we have been told, MTN employs over 500,000 people in Ghana and we are thankful for what they have done. Apart from that, anytime we wake up we hear of an innovation which ends up in success. When they started the mobile money, seriously, I didn’t understand it. I asked myself how it was going to be done but they have been able to arrange in these last 5 years to get vendors whose main work is to make sure that they make these money available, they handle transactions and make these mobile transfers work,” he stated.

Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI said these when he represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Ashanti Regional launch of the MTN Initial Public Offer (IPO) in Kumasi On Thursday 31 May, 2018.
The launch was to introduce the 35 per cent shares of the company which had been floated on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) to its customers and entreat them to buy shares in the company.
The Bantamahene urged the people to take advantage of the opportunity given by MTN by having shares or buying into the company.
“I will entreat on all Ghanaians to participate in this IPO because I believe that if you put your money there it will not be money thrown away. We have been given this opportunity and I believe that we should all try and participate. This is a company that you need not be told that it is a success in Ghana,” he added.
He encouraged the management of MTN to maintain the pace and success they have chalked to bring more innovations that will enrich the economy of Ghana.
For its developmental agenda in supporting communities in the Ashanti Region, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, assured MTN Ghana that Asanteman will reciprocate by patronizing their products.
Mr. Modupe Kadri, Chief Financial Officer of MTN Ghana, said the company had established 163 4G sites which was being enjoyed by over 3.6 million subscribers in the region.
The aim is to ensure that customers enjoyed maximum satisfaction from its services, while making positive impact on the Ghanaian mobile telephony market.
“We saw this principally as a localization. Wanting locals to have an increasing ownership of the MTN Ghana business,” the CFO of MTN Ghana stated.
He added that, MTN Ghana currently has over 17.83 million subscribers with a market share of approximately 55.09% as at December 2017.
He said the company had also created opportunities for many people to develop and improve on their talents in the areas of sports, health and education.
