The Awards , which came off at the new dome of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on May 18 2019, happened to be special as it coincides with the 20th-anniversary celebrations of the Vodafone Awards.
The scuffle begun when Stonebwouy was declared winner of the Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year and had mounted stage to receive his award, the camp of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale clashed on stage when the latter also moved on stage uninvited, provoking a brawl between the two and their followers.
In the midst of the tension, Stonebwoy pulled out a gun; an action he has explained in a press statement as self-defence.
Charterhouse had to cut transmission for well over one hour for tempers to cool down.
Shatta Wale walked out of the auditorium amid ridicules from most people who were gathered at the New Dome for the VGMA 2019.
Stonebwoy was announced as the winner for Reggae Dancehall Artist of the Year winner for the fifth time.
Hours after this occurred, the police arrested the two key individuals and another person of interest called Nii Amoo.
Nii Amoo, according to the police, was seen “discharging pepper spray in the auditorium.”
In a statement signed by DSP Effia Tenge, the Head of Public Affairs Unit at the Greater Accra Police Regional Command, all three (Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Nii Amoo) have now been “granted bail to be arraigned” in due time.
