Some campaign staff of defeated incumbent Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, Dr. Kojo Appiah-Kubi are alleged to be chasing some delegates and party executives in the constituency  with macho-men and 2 community police personnel to reclaim monies, Televisions and Refrigerators gifted them after failing to endorse his candidature in the just ended New Patriotic Party’s  parliamentary primaries.

It is alleged that about 500 delegates and party executives received cash ranging from GHS3, 000 plus 32 inch NASCO TVs and Fridges, whiles others also went home with GHS3, 200 with the promise of endorsing the candidature of the incumbent MP.

At the end of the voting Dr. Appiah Kubi managed to garner a mere 73 votes whiles, Nana Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, a first timer secured 197 votes with the eventual winner, Kofi Amankwa- Manu, who had contested the primaries three consecutive times, this time had a whopping 410 votes to secure a resounding victory.

The campaign team led by Mercy Ofosu Mensah, including a prison officer at Manhyia Prisons, called Kingsley Addai, two community police personnel and two macho men began their operation Sunday morning around 2:00am at Nweneso I and II, chasing delegates at their various homes in demand of a refund of GHS3, 200.00, NASCO Fridges and Televisions from the benefited delegates and party executives.

SilverNEWS reporter who stays at the constituency saw the campaign team of Appiah- Kubi going to house- to- house of the delegates’  at Kromoase at 9:00pm on Sunday for the cash and the items.

When SilverNEWS reached Mercy Ofosu Mensah to establish the campaign team’s rationale to get the money and the items back, she said that, “Dr. Appiah –Kubi is blaming us (campaign team) for his defeat because he thinks we did not give the money and the items to the delegates and the executives, hence his defeat.” She added that the Dr. Appiah- Kubi gave the team his blessing to reclaim the money and the items but was taken aback to hear him on radio denying knowledge of their actions.

Mercy Ofosu Mensah also confirmed to Nana Ampratwum on SilverFM's Omanbapa Show of receiving some of the money from the delegates and party executives but failed to disclose the amount. “Yes we managed to collect monies from some of them whiles others have also promised to go to the Bank tomorrow to withdraw the deposited cash for us,” she indicated.

She however revealed that they have backed down from their actions after calls from authorities urged them to stop.

One delegate Ebenezer Kusi, an NPP organizer for Akyeremade electoral area also narrated his ordeal on SilverFM Omanbapa Show , “After coming back from church, I decided to take a nap but after twenty minutes, I heard a knock on my door and when I opened, I saw some campaign team of Dr. Appiah- Kubi, led by Mercy Ofosu Mensah, a prison officer, Kingsley Addai, who stays at Akyeremade, two community police personnel and two macho men.”

''Before I could ask them about their mission, they told Dr. Appiah- Kubi had sent them to collect back his money they money I took from him to vote for him. I told them I have deposited the money at the bank and they threatened to curse me with river gods and some deities if I fail to refund the money''.

One Samson Boadi, a resident at Akyeremade told SilverNEWS, how some residents of the community fiercely resisted the campaign team of the losing incumbent NPP MP for the area. “The campaign team of Dr. Appiah- Kubi tried to forcibly collect money from one Georgina Serwaa, the Woman’s Organizer of Akyeremade, but her son and some neighbours fought them”, he added

When silverNEWS spoke to Dr. Appiah Kubi to ascertain the truth, he denied any knowledge of the actions taken by his campaign team, saying, “I have not sent anybody out to take back any money, or items from the delegates and the party executives.”He disclosed he had not stepped out and asked those taking back monies from the delegates to stop.

Meanwhile, when speaking on a local radio station in Kumasi, Dr. Appiah-Kubi confirmed giving the delegates and the executives money as their transportation fees.

“I have not instructed Mercy to go to the houses of the delegates and the executives to reclaim the money. I gave to them as their transportation fees,” he said.
