Whiles some Ghanaians are claiming that the NDC is using the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse for not selecting their running mate, others are of the view that the NDC is finding it difficult to get a suitable person to partner its flagbearer, JD Mahama.
Names like former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Joe Adjaho, former Finance Minister, Prof Kwesi Botchwey, former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, former Agric Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi, former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong, former COCOBOD CEO, Dr. Stephen Opuni, former Education Minister, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, former Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Boss, Alex Mould, former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, and many others have been speculated.
However speculations are rife at the constituency of the Sekyere Afram Plains that the former president, John Dramani Mahama has settled on the former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, and is waiting to officially introduce him to the Executive Committee of the Party.
What makes this speculations a bit real is the fact that, it is alleged to have come from the Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, Hon. Alex Adomako Mensah who is biologically related to the former Minister of Finance.
Sources close to silveronline24.com, indicated that the Sekyere Afram Plains lawmaker made this pronouncement to the party executives, members in various zones and branches in the constituency and allegedly claimed that, major developmental projects would be carried out in the area when his brother, Dr. Kwabena Duffour officially becomes the running mate to John Dramani Mahama and in case the NDC wins the 2020 elections.
“The executive committee of the National Democratic Congress have decided to choose my elder brother Dr Kwabena Duffour to partner the flag bearer John Dramani Mahama for 2020 general election,” an elated Alex Adomako Mensah allegedly added.
‘Confident’ Alex Adomako Mensah in his attempt to win back the love of his constituents, especially some NDC officials who have been disappointed in him, on Saturday, May 2 urged them party executives to calm their nerves and help him maintain the seat for the NDC.
However, after the meeting some party members expressed disappointment in their MP for not been able to bring any meaningful projects to the constituency for two terms (8 years) he had been in parliament.
A member of the party executives in the constituency, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Empty promises the MP always make to the branch executives. For eight solid years in parliament, only this year he has considered the need to come out with the following bogus promises, such as to protect every party communicator against the NPP, employing of some party members to the Buffalo Unit of the Ghana Police Service, creation of more jobs for the party executives,”
