Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region have appealed to Government for an intervention to enable them to purchase artificial legs, limbs and wheelchairs  to enhance their movements.

The appeal was made by participants at a day’s health screening and donation organised by Rising Hope Foundation (RHF), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for PWDs on Tuesday at Piase in the Bosomtwe District.

Rising Hope Foundation, a Kumasi-based NGO, aims at ensuring the betterment of PWDs in the country.

The screening and donation funded by the members of the Rising Hope Foundation was on the theme Empowering PWDs to impact society.

It was attended by more than 60 participants drawn from some identifiable groups comprising  Blind peoples, Deaf and Dumbs and other physically challenged persons in the community.

The participants noted the cost of either an artificial leg or limb was not less than Ghc1,500.00 while wheelchairs and walking sticks is about Ghc.300  stressing that was too much for an individual physically-challenged person without gainful employment.

Government’s assistance in that regard would, therefore, relieve members immensely of that financial burden, they stated.

The participants complained about the manipulation by officials of some Assembly regarding the two per cent share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund meant for PWDs and, therefore, appealed to the National Council for Disabilities to intervene.

Miss Deborah Anane Adjei, the leader of the Rising Hope Foundation, in a statement advised groups of PWDs in the community and the country at large to ensure their respective Assemblies involved them in decisions that directly or indirectly affected them.

Miss. Anane  said it was only when their leadership showed the greatest degree of concern and interest in their own affairs by way of inclusiveness at Assemblies’ Meetings that they would get what is due them.

He told participants of sources where they could seek for both local and international assistance, but emphasised qualification for such aids was not for an individual member, but groups.

Miss Deborah Anane Adjei a physically challenged continued by urging parents to seek medical attention when they are pregnant and after birth send their child to hospital regularly especially when they sees some strange illness in their child for early treatment.

She also urge parents with disabled  child to school adding that, they can do whatever abled person can do if only they decide to help them.
The chief in the area Nana Nana Osei Gyamrah thanks the members of NGO for their kind gusture.          Hon Daniel Owusu Fodjour, Assembly member of the area express his gratitude to the Rising Hope Foundation for the support. He took the opportunity to appealed to the government to expand their CHIP compound into clinic standard since their population is above the CHIP compound.
