The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) as part of its constitution is to elect leaders to man the affairs of the union.The stage was finally set yesterday August 26 for the Union to elect its executive at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The election which was supposed to be held on August last year, after the 4 year tenure could not come off due to some misunderstandings as majority of the delegates blame it on their national chairman for solely with-holding the election by then.

7 positions made up of Chairman, Vice Chairman, General secretary, Deputy General Secretary Operations, Deputy General Secretary Administration, 1st trustee and then 2nd trustee was expected to be contested for by the end of the congress.

2 delegates from each of the 883 branches of the GPRTU across the country casted their votes at the KNUST.

Speaking to the Public Relations Officer of the Union,  Mr. Abass Ibrahim Moro aka Abass Power who adds as the organiser for the congress,revealed that aspirants had to be nominated by securing at least 20% endorsement before vetting committee had to finally clear them.

Talking about security for the congress, Mr. Abass Ibrahim disclosed that security had been very successful ever since they began the Congress on Monday.

When asked to mention the number of aspirants for the election Mr. Abass said he could not quantify the number for now unless the nomination had been done for a final confirmation.

He however revealed that only the slot for Vice Chairmanship position had been confirmed as unopposed, in the person of Mr. Emmanuel Nii Ankra who was the Greater Accra Regional Chairman.

For the Chairmanship position, the PRO was able to mention the Ashanti Regional Chairman and the Volta Regional Chairman as the known people to have brought their names.

Further information revealed that the Congress would be brought to an end after the process permit elections to be done on either Wednesday or Thursday.
