The Electoral Commission of Ghana will proceed with the compilation of the new voter's register despite a fightback from the main opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC.
The exercise is set to begin from last week of June this year to the end of July 2020,the EC’s position was announced yesterday after a meeting of the Interparty Advisory Committee, IPAC.
Over 15 political parties were invited to attend the (IPAC) meeting but the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) boycotted the meeting .It is believed that the boycott was over the register as well as an alleged violation of COVID-19 protocols.
The EC has prior to the meeting, extended an invitation letter extended to some 16 political including the NPP, NDC, CPP, PPP, PNC, LPG, GCPP, GUM, UFP, NDP, among others.
The EC had suspended the start of the compilation due to the coronavirus. The EC says it will observe all necessary health protocols in the process.
The latest decision is backed by the ruling New Patriotic Party whiles the NDC says it will use all legitimate means to ensure it doesn’t happen.
