President Akufo Addo has come out again with another relief plan that says that the government will fully cover the bills of low-income consumers of electricity in the country for April, May and June 2020 amid a partial lockdown of the epicentres of the disease.

This comes in response to further calls to reduce or scrap electricity tariffs after an announcement that the government will take care of the water bills for all Ghanaians for three months following an increase in the country’s coronavirus cases.

The President made this known during his 6th address to the nation on updates to Ghana’s enhanced response to the Coronavirus pandemic, on Thursday 9th April 2020.

However residential and commercial users will enjoy 50% reduction of the electricity bills,the government has said.

"We have decided on further mitigating the impact for all Ghanaians for the next three months, April, May and June, Government will fully absorb electricity bills for the poorest of the poor that is for all lifeline consumers. That is free electricity for persons who consume 0-50 kilowatts hours a month for this period, in addition for all other consumers, residential and commercial government will absorb 50% of your electricity bill for this period using your March 2020 bill as your benchmark..."

A one week extension of the partial lockdown of Accra and Kumasi has been announced by the President.The extension will commence Monday 1am and ends on April 20,2020.

Ghana has now confirmed 378 cases of the covid-19 pandemic,with six deaths.
