A 25-year-old unemployed man, Kwabena Kwakye, who admitted robbing a frail coconut seller of GH¢140, has been sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment.

The convict, popularly known as Bible and a resident of Afoako, near Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region, targeted the victim when he arrived at Afoako on May 4, 2019 for wake-keeping from Anwiankwanta.

He carried out the attack after stealing an amplifier belonging to the church of True Pentecostal Ministries at Atobiase, near Afoako.

He was sentenced on two counts of robbery and stealing of the amplifier by the Bekwai Circuit Court presided over by Fredrick Nawura.

The prosecutor Detective Inspector Stephen Ofori told the court that Kwabena Kwakye trailed the coconut seller from a drinking spot.

He said the convict slapped the complainant and robbed him of his bag containing GH¢140.

Inspector Ofori narrated that the convict also pushed the victim into the gutter.

Some mourners came to his rescue but Kwakye managed to escape.

The prosecutor stated that he was later apprehended and handed over to the police.

The judge sentenced Kwakye to 16 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for robbery and stealing.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
