Residents of Akwaboa in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District in Ashanti have fled their homes into the bush, following sporadic gunshots in the area.

Reports reaching Silver 98.3 FM news indicate that the shooting which started around 7pm lasted for well over five hours.

Although only one person sustain severe injuries when he was allegedly kidnapped by some suspected land guards brought by the Chief of Akwaboa, Nana Brefo Appau III.

A resident of Akwaboa, who spoke to Silver FM's Akwadaa Nyame from his hideout, said families have run away from their homes, leaving the women and children in the state of anxiety.

“We do not know who these gunmen are from and they just started shooting at randomly and accompanied by some family members of the chief. Those who did the shooting are not from  Akwaboa. They were hired by the chief and they just came from nowhere and started shooting, “he said.

Sadly there were no police personnel around to avert the situation.

“Street lights have been destroyed by the armed macho men, making the whole community live in total darkness. This is very unfortunate and people don't know what to do,” an old woman said with tears,”

The District Chief Executive Hon Rebecca Yeboah after meeting the chief of Akwaboa assured the community bringing some police personnel to protect the residents.

She vowed, her outfit will brought the perpetrators to book and find a lasting solution to the problem.

Nana Brefo Appau III, the chief of Akwaboa refused to talk to the media saying that he has reported the case the police.
