Residents of Mpasaaso No1 a community located in the Ahafo Ano South West of the Ashanti region are protesting the destruction of what is said to be the largest forest reserve in the district.

The 9.5 square kilometer forest reserve is situated 25 Kilometers away from Mankranso, the district capital of Ahafo Ano South West.

Farmers in the district alleged that, the Nkawie forest manager Mr Agyei and the forest guard Mr Albert Hillary have issued a fossicking licence to Yaw Mensah, Kofi Amponsah and K.K after taking a huge amount of money to ply the forest.

The forest has since been under destruction as some parts have been given to Farmers to farm and plant to replace  cut down trees while a section had been cleared by excavators by these illegal chainsaw operators.

The leader of the aggrieved farmers Mr Kwadwo Asare alleged that chain saw operators said it was the district forest manager who has ordered them to do so for a structure to be put up in the forest to house workers for the illegal felling down of the tress.

"When I called on Kofi Amponsah and Yaw Mensah, he admitted that, he has been given licence to operate in the forest''.

The leader of the group also called on the government and major stakeholders to reconsider their decision to stop them from further destroying the forest by these illegal chain saw operators.

He added that, as citizens they will not sit and watch people destroy and cause harm to the forest meant for the future generation without replacing them.

"We have experienced the dangers and shortage of food and other negative effects illegal felling down of trees has brought us as a country, he added. He is therefore appealing to the government and all political figures and who have hands in that deal as soon as possible put a stop to it for them to have their freedom," He stated
