With a December 7 General Elections approaching, the public should know that the deadline to register to vote in the 2020 General Elections is August 6.

It is with this that stakeholders are appealing to members and the public to register to exercise franchise for good governance.

Assembly Member of Krom-Adwafo in the Bosomtwe District, Hon. Ronald Agyei Daniel is appealing to residents who qualify to register in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise to come out in their numbers and register for the voter’s identification card.

According to him, there has been low turnout since they started the registration exercise in the community.

Speaking to Nana Ampratwum on Omanbapa morning show,Hon. Adjei indicated that only 400 people have registered so far compared to the previous days.

''The voter registration exercise started on Sunday , July 19 2020 in Krom-Adwafo''

''The total voter list in previous register in this community was about 750 registrants but as I talk to you now the turn out in this current exercise is low''

''I think the pandemic has restricted a lot of movements - registrants who have migrated to other cities are reluctant to come and register over fears of contracting the covid 19 and financial constraints''

He attributed the low turnout to the fears associated with Covid-19 pandemic and also Ghanaians trapped outside due to the closure of borders.

The Member appealed to residents to come out of the fear to register.

The Electoral Commission (EC) last week, started the fourth phase of the voter registration exercise in all the 16 regions, as the country prepares for the December 7, general elections.

The fourth phase, just like the second and third, would see officials of the Commission move from one centre to the other in the same constituencies where the mass compilation of new voters register was ongoing.

This follows a day rest on Saturday, July 18, for the general registration for officers at various centres, although the same day saw the continuation of the exercise at Senior High Schools (SHSs) and prisons.4

The mass compilation of new voters register commenced on June 30 and it is expected to end on August 6, 2020.

Eligible participants are required to provide either a passport, a National Identification Authority identity card (Ghana card) as supporting document to enable one to be registered.

For qualified applicants who do not possess any of the named document, they are required to have two individuals who have any of the two documents or the new voter ID card as guarantors.
