It’s been two years since the Government of Ghana announced a new policy making education for Senior High School (SHS) students in Ghana free of cost and the President has encouraged Ghanaians to embrace the free SHS policy for future development.
However the founder of Ghana Union Movement has criticized the President's initiative describing it as ''unbeneficial since it has not produced any difference in the Ghanaian Education system''.
Speaking on OmanbapaSHOW with Nana Ampratwum, Osofo Kyiri Abosom said the Free SHS Policy has not been able to produce any reforms for youth development in Ghana's Education system.
''The government's policy of Free SHS has not benefited Ghanaians in any way''
“We give the youth free education and when they come out of school, there is nothing out there for them to do,”
He further condemned government’s implementation of the Free SHS, insisting what the youth need is skills training to prepare them for jobs.
''There are no jobs for some of the youth who even paid tuition and have completed school ten years ago ..... so what is the essence of introducing Free SHS.
''If the Free SHS had been able to produce technicians who can manufacture aircrafts, motor,TV, Iron etc Shoe.....that is what we are looking for ''
He indicated that he does not buy the idea of using final examination to access the success of students and promised to cancel 'final exams' when voted to power.
The Reverend said the President had a vision and good social interventions for Ghana but the individuals who surround him have made him loose focus and also failed him.
He explained that the intention is not to sabotage any individual, government or political party but to contribute to the democratic shaping of Ghana's development, especially the wellbeing of the citizens.
