The two who were on motor bike allegedly attacked a mobile money vendor at Taifa Burkina in Accra in broad daylight yesterday.
They even fired gunshots at onlookers to stop them from pursuing them, the police said.
One of the suspects was said to have been trapped under a Pontiac Vibe Car of the driver, who happened to be the victim.
The armed robber, who was trapped under the car, sustained severe injuries, but the other suspect was arrested later by the police with the assistance of some residents of the area when he tried to hide in a gutter.
The two are currently in the custody of the Accra Regional Police Command assisting in police investigations.
Briefing the media, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Afia Tenge, said the incident occurred around 8:30am yesterday.
She said the two suspected armed robbers on an unregistered motor bike attacked the mobile money vendor and robbed him of his money.
The Police PRO said the owner of the mobile money shop gave the suspects a hot chase with his Pontiac vibe car and managed to knock them down.
“The pillion rider was trapped under the vehicle while the rider jumped off the motorbike and ran amidst sporadic firing of gunshots.
She said that the regional police patrol team heard the gunshots and immediately proceeded to the area.
“At that moment, the suspect threw the gun into a nearby bush and hid in a gutter but with the help of some residents, who know the area very well, the second suspect was arrested.”
The revolver of the suspect, according to DSP Tenge, was later retrieved from the bush.
She revealed that the identities of the two suspects had been withheld in order to quickly apprehend their accomplices.
“Our checks have revealed that the two suspects are part of a syndicate that has been operating in the area, and are involved in other robbery activities and so they would be remanded and kept in police custody while investigations into the matter continue,” she added.
