The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II has sworn in a new chief for the people of Asafo in Kumasi.

Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu, as his throne name, succeeds Asafo Akowua II who was destooled by the Asantehene on a gross misconduct.

Known in private life as William Kojo Agyemang Bonsu, the German-based Ghanaian scientist becomes the 22nd Asafohene and also the 22nd Otumfuo Akwamuhene of the Kumasi traditional council.

After receiving several advise from Otumfour's sub-chiefs at the Manhyia palace over how he should value the throne and govern well for the benefit and well-being of Asafo and the Akwamu clanship, Otumfuo Osei Tutu added deep words of wisdom.

Giving his words, the Asantehene urged the new Akwamu Chief to value the throne in high esteem and do the needful if he wants to reign forever. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II admonished him be very truthful all the time. He however cautioned him against arrogance, superiority, autocracy, disobedience, disrespect as according to Otumfuo will bring a disgrace and dishonour upon himself.

"I wish and believe you will enjoy the throne in peace by virtue of standing for "Truth" all the time. Feeling so big and superior over your elders, disrespecting them, being arrogant and underrating the great stool thereby disobeying orders, you create a dungeon that leads you to a disgrace and a great plague.

''I am of the firm conviction that your good character, innocent looking and large recommendation will prove beyond a reasonable doubt, to steering a good affair that brings glory to the throne", Otumfuo confided in him.

In his response, the new Asafohene, Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu thanked Otumfuo and his elders for entrusting and giving him such an honour. He however pledge to adhere to all orders and advise given to him by the great king. He finally promised to guard and protect his people, form a great team with his elders and discuss all matters together, that brings success and development.


William Kojo Agyemang Bonsu, his real name, is a 61 year old Ghanaian from the Ashanti kingdom who dwells in Germany. He is the manager for climate change at the U.N office in Bonn, Germany.

He was among the 22 persons who contested the vacant throne after the predecessor, Asafo Akowua had been destooled. 5 were disqualified remaining remaining 17. Four(4) out five(5) kingmakers finally confirmed him to be the next king.
