Okumkɔm Nana Akwasi Agyeman, former Kumasi Mayor goes home today
THE REMAINS of Nana Akwasi Agyeman, aka Okumkom, will be finally interred tonight.
The burial ceremony, which is expected to be private, will take place at the Royal Mausoleum at Breman, near Kumasi.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and few members of the Asante royal family will be present during the burial.
Prior to the burial, Okumkom’s body will lie in repose at the Asantehemaa’s palace at Manhyia, Kumasi, on Monday.
From early morning to about 6 pm, mourners from all walks of life will be allowed to pay their last respects to him.
The burial on Monday night will be followed by the final funeral rites at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday afternoon.
Okumkom, a member of the Oyoko royal family of the Asante Kingdom, kicked the bucket few weeks ago.
His untimely death occurred at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after succumbing to a short illness.
President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr. Bawumia were among the mourners during his one-week observance.
During his lifetime, Okumkom faithfully served the country in different capacities, especially during the 1980s.
Nana Akwasi Agyeman is on record as the longest-serving Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Chief Executive.
He was 86 years old and he was survived by prominent children including Dr. Agyeman of KATH, Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, Kumasi Metro Roads Director, and Nana Prempeh, a businessman.
